Here are some stills from the movie Edge of Fury, a 1958 thriller starring Michael Higgins (no, I hadn’t heard of him either). Apparently this movie was hard-to-find for a long time, though it’s now available on Netflix Instant. If the world were fair, this would be a cult classic.
The protagonist is hilarious and creepy; the film’s setting is beautiful and its ending is delightfully grotesque. You owe it to yourself to watch this great movie. I don’t say that very often.

Last week at vacation Bible school, I played a country singer-turned-Christian hip hop musician. I wore a felt cowboy hat, except for the last day when I wore a flat-bill. All forms of artistry find their truest expression in Christ—thankfully, this includes cheesy, cringeworthy acting.
Also pictured: Lynley, the straight man, who showed me the hip hop ropes and taught me about God’s greatness, and Dempsey, my DJ, as a kind of Slash/Gene Simmons amalgam.
As a kid, I used to dislike the sound of uilleann pipes, but lately I’ve been really into them. Today I’m rocking out to Séamus Ennis.
I find it impossible to use anyone as a sounding board without them making suggestions—which destroys the work. So I never ask for opinions.Stephin Merritt
