Present Joys

who hath preserved us from our birth
for present joys, for blessings past,
and for the hope of heaven at last.”

What I did this week (25 oct 2013)

  • Had a long tuesday. Enjoyed caramel apple suckers and sent approximately 1,000 clever pun-themed Snapchats to Julia during class. Truly, a worthwhile use of time.
  • Celebrated my birthday on wednesday! Left the house extra-early and drove in the freezing rain to meet John at the DK Diner, where I put birthday candles on our breakfast food.
  • Then, we went to Jim Johnson’s class and started work on a new project. Brian Spain was there. During class, I walked over to the Thurber House with Alix and Josh, where we had a lovely little meeting with the executive director.
  • Lunch with Jason at Hubert’s Polish Kitchen (a tradition)! Then, back to school for History of Cinema where we watched Blue Velvet together, which was exactly as uncomfortable as you’d expect.
  • Endured brutally cold weather on thursday. I am doing an intensive technique study on enameling, so I spent most of the morning in jewelry reading heavy enameling books.
  • Walked over to the Grass Skirt for another nice lunch with friends. It was warm and dark and cozy—the absolute perfect place for a wintry lunch with good friends. Anna gave me an amazing mixtape.
  • Began working on a new senior ad project. I am doing a hypothetical rebrand for my favorite tea company. While doing research, I called them up and talked to the company’s owner for a half hour!
  • Slept through my alarm on friday morning and woke up fifteen minutes into my only class. When I apologized to my friends for being late, they made fun of me for caring. We are struggling to stay engaged.

October 23 also happens to be my birthday. To celebrate, I had not one but two delicious meals with dear friends. First: breakfast at with John (my birthday twin!). We met each other at the DK Diner at 7am to have a delightful meal before heading to class. Note John’s utterly sleepy facial expression and the fact that it is still pitch black outside. Also: for lunch, I continued the tradition of eating Polish food with Jason at the North Market. (Amanda was not present and was greatly missed.)

What I did this week (15 mar 2013)

  • Endured a “you guys really need to start getting your crap together” lecture from Burleigh in Advanced Type. The one weekend I figured I could slide by without doing any homework…
  • Had a very normal wednesday at OhioHealth (those are the days I work from 8am–6pm), except for a little lunch outing with Amanda at Jack’s Diner, a very cute, very hidden downtown lunch place.
  • Didn’t have to go to my Draping class this week, because Cheryl Steele planned for us to do an offsite homework project (more on that later). Instead, I got in some extra internship hours.
  • Celebrated Jason’s birthday on thursday with cupcakes from Amanda and Jen!
  • Worked hard to have some actual progress for thursday’s advanced type. Lectures are no fun.
  • Celebrated Jason’s birthday (some more) by making our an annual trip to the North Market.
  • Took a nice photo of our food before eating it.
  • After lunch, drove to Easton to complete that offsite homework assignment for the always-tough Cheryl Steele. I examined dresses at Nordstrom and other stores.
  • Then: it was spring break.
